All COIFFLISS treatments are formaldehyde-free, in organic formulas. This article explains how to find that information on a smoothing label, what manufacturers write on their official pages and what else to read before you choose. For the big picture, see our guide Which Brazilian smoothing should you choose?.
Our commitment: all our treatments are formaldehyde-free
When you order from COIFFLISS, you receive a formaldehyde-free treatment. This is the rule across our whole selection of professional Brazilian smoothing, whether tannin, protein, keratin, BTX or kits. You can therefore compare our products on what really differs from one treatment to another: the hair type targeted, the protocol and the ingredient list.
What does "formaldehyde-free" mean on a label?
"Sans formol", "sans formaldéhyde", "formaldehyde-free" and "livre de formol" are the same mention in four wordings. Brazilian products often carry a label in Portuguese, hence the phrase "livre de formol". A label may also be translated or come with a French leaflet: the mention stays the same, only the language changes.
What manufacturers write on their official pages
- Deby Hair: the pages for Lisa Protein, Lisa Protein Blond and Lisa Indian describe the product as "sans formaldéhyde" (formaldehyde-free). The mention appears in the title and the description.
- Vitta Gold: the pages for Silk Express, Top One and Nanoplex Arginina speak of a formaldehyde-free formula, and the FAQ on the Coconut Liss and Nanoplex Solar pages says the brand's treatments are free of formaldehyde.
- Ana Paula Carvalho: the Infinity Blond page says "100% livre de formol" (100% formaldehyde-free).
These quotes come from the manufacturers' pages. They confirm, in the brands' own words, what we apply to our whole selection.
Reading a smoothing label, step by step
- Find the product name, the range and the size: they should match what you ordered.
- Look for the mention "sans formol", "sans formaldéhyde", "formaldehyde-free" or "livre de formol".
- Read the ingredient list. Components are normally ordered from most to least concentrated.
- Find the usage indication: the smoothing treatments in our selection are for professional use, with a strand test before application.
- Note the batch number and the date, and keep the packaging.
- Keep the manufacturer's leaflet or protocol: leave-on time, iron temperature and companion products are listed there.
Reading the ingredient list
The ingredient list is the most useful part of the label when comparing two treatments. As an example, the Deby Hair Lisa Protein page publishes a list that starts with water and glyoxyloyl carbocysteine, then mentions among others tannic acid, olive oil and a Brazil nut seed extract, as well as preservatives and fragrances. A list is not read like a score: it mainly helps compare the nature of formulas, tannin, protein or keratin, and see what the manufacturer puts forward.
Two product sheets side by side
Take Deby Hair Lisa Protein: fine, brittle hair, described as "sans formaldéhyde", Brazil nut oil, 60 minutes leave-on, iron between 170 and 250 °C, professional use only. Then take Vitta Gold Silk Express: thick, curly or resistant hair, described as "sans formaldéhyde", Organic Tanino Fusion™ technology, 30 to 40 minutes leave-on, 8 to 15 passes between 220 and 230 °C. In both cases the formaldehyde-free mention is one line among others: it is read together with the hair type, the protocol and the ingredient list.
What the mention does not replace
A mention about one substance does not replace the manufacturer's protocol, the strand test or the advice of a professional hairdresser. It does not tell you what result to expect either: the duration and look of a smoothing depend on the product, the hair and the aftercare. To choose between two families of treatments, also read Tannin or keratin smoothing?.
A few words you will see on the packaging
Batch number: a code printed on the packaging that identifies the production run; keep it with your records. Strand test: a trial on a small section of hair before the full application, to see how the hair reacts to the leave-on time and the heat of the iron. Protocol: the sequence of steps given by the manufacturer, from the first shampoo to the final rinse. Professional use: the product is meant to be applied by a trained hairdresser, or under their supervision, following the manufacturer's instructions. Leave-on time: how long the product stays on the hair before the iron; it changes from one product to another, as the Lisa Protein and Silk Express pages show.
