Which Brazilian smoothing should you choose?

Smooth, frizz-free, shiny long hair with natural movement

There is no single "best" Brazilian smoothing: each brand describes its own formula, its protocol and the hair it is designed for. This guide promises no result. It shows how to compare products using what the manufacturers themselves write on their official pages, and where to find each product in our selection of professional Brazilian smoothing.

1. Start from the hair type, as the manufacturers do

The first thing brands tell you is the hair type a product is meant for. Here is what their official pages say for a few references:

These sentences are brand statements, not tests carried out by COIFFLISS. They are a starting point: if your hair is fine, you will not read the same product sheet as for thick hair.

2. Compare the protocol: leave-on time and iron

Two products can target the same hair and still ask for very different work in the salon. The manufacturers give precise leave-on times and iron temperatures:

  • Deby Hair Lisa Protein: 60 minutes, nano-titanium iron between 170 and 250 °C depending on hair type.
  • Brasil Cacau Smoothing Protein: 30 to 60 minutes, thin strands passed 10 to 15 times at 180 to 230 °C.
  • Vitta Gold Silk Express: 30 to 40 minutes, 8 to 15 passes at 220-230 °C.
  • Vitta Gold Top One: 30 to 60 minutes, 10 to 20 passes at 230 °C.
  • Vitta Gold Nanoplex Arginina: 40 to 60 minutes, 10 to 20 passes at 230 °C.

Each brand also says to adapt the steps to the hair and to do a strand test before the full application. Always follow the label of the product you receive: it prevails over this guide.

3. A single treatment or a full kit

Some protocols rely on other products from the same range: anti-residue shampoo, mask, conditioner, serum. At several brands these are sold separately. A smoothing kit gathers several steps in one purchase, in sizes such as 2 × 1 L or 3 × 1 L. Before choosing, check what is in the box and what the protocol requires on top.

4. All our treatments are formaldehyde-free

All COIFFLISS treatments are formaldehyde-free, in organic formulas. That is one less criterion to check when you compare our products: you can focus on the hair type, the protocol and the ingredient list. To learn how to read a label, see our article All COIFFLISS treatments are formaldehyde-free.

5. Professional use and precautions

The products we list are labelled for professional use. The protocols we read ask for a strand test, gloves and avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Deby Hair advises against use during pregnancy or breastfeeding and on damaged hair. These precautions come from the manufacturers; if in doubt, ask a professional.

Questions to ask before buying

  • Which hair type does the brand state for this product?
  • What leave-on time and iron temperature does the protocol call for?
  • Are the companion products (shampoo, mask) included or sold separately?
  • Does the brand provide an ingredient list? Is the product formaldehyde-free (all COIFFLISS treatments are)?
  • Does the size (1 L, 2 × 1 L, 3 × 1 L) fit how you will use it?

Where to start in our selection

Browse the brand pages for Deby Hair, Vitta Gold, Brasil Cacau and Ana Paula Carvalho, or compare techniques: tannin, protein and keratin.

An example of a protocol read on an official page

To show what a full protocol contains, here are the steps Brasil Cacau gives for Smoothing Protein: (1) anti-residue shampoo, lather, 5 minutes, rinse, repeat if needed; (2) dry completely; (3) divide into 6 sections, apply, leave on for 30 to 60 minutes; (4) dry completely; (5) flat iron thin strands from root to tip 10 to 15 times at 180 to 230 °C; (6) deep conditioning mask for 5 to 10 minutes; (7) rinse and style. Two of these steps (the shampoo and the mask) use products sold separately.

What this guide does not do

It does not replace the label, the advice of a professional hairdresser or a strand test. It does not rank brands against each other and guarantees no result. For several items in our catalogue (for example Honma Tokyo, Onix Liss, Portier, Salvatore or Vogue) we found no detailed official page: we list them by name, type and size, and we say so on the pages concerned. If a piece of information is missing, ask your supplier or the brand before buying.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Brazilian smoothing last?
It depends on the product, the hair and the aftercare. We only quote a duration when the manufacturer states one, and we attribute it: for example, Brasil Cacau states up to 3 months for Smoothing Protein.

Can I return an unopened product?
Our refund policy allows returns within 14 days of delivery for unused, unopened items in their original packaging.
